About

Sven Ciupka is a contemporary visual artist born in Guatemala, with Italian and German heritage, whose practice centers on movement as a way of giving physical presence to the photograph.
His work explores photography beyond the static moment, focusing on the point where time, motion, and material begin to interact. Rather than freezing an instant, he uses movement to allow the image to unfold, creating works that feel active, lived, and sustained in time.
Before fully focusing on his artistic practice, Ciupka built a career in professional and commissioned photography. This background established a strong technical foundation and a disciplined visual approach, while also shaping a deep awareness of process, control, and intention. Over time, his relationship with the medium shifted toward uncertainty, duration, and presence.
His work is organized into distinct bodies of work, each approaching movement from a different perspective. Materia Viva focuses on surface and material, using motion to give presence to what is often overlooked. Momentos explores places as lived experiences, where movement allows time and memory to remain present. Fases is a more introspective body of work, using abstraction and motion to reflect personal transitions and emotional states.
Each work is conceived as a unique piece (1/1), produced with intention and finished to the highest standards. The emphasis is not on repetition, but on singularity, process and presence.
Through his practice, Ciupka is interested in the photograph as something that continues to exist beyond the instant it was created.
